El Nido, Palawan, Philippines

The Municipality of El Nido is a first class municipality and managed resource protected area in the province of Palawan in the Philippines. It is about 420 kilometers southwest of Manila, and about 238 kilometers northeast of Puerto Princesa.

The municipality, covering a land area of 465.10 square kilometers in the northernmost tip of mainland Palawan, is bordered by the Linapacan Strait in the north, the Sulu Sea in the east, and the South China Sea in the west. It is composed of 45 islands and islets, each has its own unique geological formations. The highest peak is at Cadlao Island, towering up to 640 meters above sea level.

Like the rest of Palawan and Sulu, it is part of the Sunda Plate, a plate that is entirely separate from the Philippine Mobile Belt to which the rest of the Philippines belongs. The limestone cliffs here are similar to those that can be found in Ha Long Bay in Vietnam and Guilin in China, as well as Krabi in Thailand, all of which are part of the Eurasian Plate.

Pandan Island

Pandan Island is a private island with a small resort on the West coast of Occidental Mindoro, Central Philippines. Pandan Island is for people who like to spend time in tropical surroundings without cars and television. A place where you are woken up by the singing of colorful birds, where there is only a palm tree between you and the sea, where you still know your neighbors and where you may even meet a sea turtle before having your breakfast .

Its main attraction is its immaculate stretch of white sand beach, whose pristine quality reveals even that of more celebrated Boracay. In fact, it offers the sand and water of Boracay without the crowds and dizzying array of gaudy resorts. The waters around the island are shallow and temperate, making it superb for leisurely swimming and snorkeling. The quiet, laid back atmosphere is perfect for peaceful strolls and restful retreats. Nights are best spent stargazing through glare-free skies, since even proper electricity eludes this place. Pandan is simply the best place for doing nothing.

Scuba Diving in the coral gardens around Pandan or around the nearby Apo Reef is the most popular and exciting activity to engage in but we also offer you the possibility to explore the jungle rivers of nearby Mindoro by kayak or visit the small coastal town of Sablayan and meet its friendly inhabitants.

Since there are few people and no electricity, days are best spent sleeping on a hammock under a shade. At night, the stars and heavens are out en masse. Dont miss counting the meteorites before dawn! Life on the island is slow and the rhythm is dictated by nature it is a special place that will surely leave its mark on the spirit of the world-weary traveller.
